Outlook Express 2007 Configuration for BSNL email. Before starting, I would like to lay a brief idea about IMAP and POP. Difference between IMAP and POP: IMAP and POP are two different protocols. IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol and POP stands for Post Office Protocol . IMAP always syncs with the mail server(gmail, yahoo and bsnl etc) so any changes in the mail client/devices (Outlook, Thunderbird etc) will instantly effect the mail server i.e will reflect in your mail inbox. if you read a mail using mail client, you will see it as "read" in your inbox. Likewise if you delete any mail from your mail client it will directly delete from mail server (inbox). Since mail client/devices are always sync with mail server, using IMAP you can access your mail from multiple mail clients/devices and each clients/devices detect any changes in real time.
